Preparation for the Medical German Language Examination (FSP)

1. Target group & purpose

The specialist language courses are designed for international doctors who wish to work in Germany and must meet the language requirements for a temporary medical licence or full medical licensure.

  • Preparation for the specialist language examinations held by the State Chambers of Physicians (FSP)
  • Preparation for the telc B2/C1 Medizin examination (written & oral)
2. Course features

The courses are tailored specifically to the demands of everyday hospital work and combine medical content with intensive language practice.

  • Around 40 realistic exam simulations (internal medicine, surgery, neurology, orthopaedics and more)
  • Interdisciplinary team: doctors, German-as-a-foreign-language instructors, tutors from Göttingen University Medical Center and simulated patients
  • Total duration: 12 weeks / 360 teaching units (4 modules of 90 units, 30 units per week)
  • The modules build on one another and cannot be booked separately
  • Requirement: a good B2 qualification, ideally with 2–3 years of professional experience
3. Module overview (3 months)

The four consecutive modules cover the entire language pathway, from basic medical vocabulary to intensive exam preparation.

  • Basic medical vocabulary, patient history and admission findings
  • History-taking and documentation
  • Grammar: reported speech, passive voice and nominalisation

  • Physical examination and documentation of findings
  • Case presentations, handovers and specialist presentations
  • Grammar: modal passive, noun–verb combinations and nominalisation

  • Conversations with patients and relatives, informed-consent and discharge discussions
  • Written documentation: medical report and discharge summary
  • Overview of the organisation and structure of the German healthcare system

  • Telephone training for internal and external calls
  • Targeted preparation for telc B2/C1 Medizin
  • Intensive preparation for the Medical German Language Examination (FSP) held by the Chambers of Physicians
4. Examination information

The courses provide practical preparation for all relevant medical-language examination formats.

  • telc B2/C1 Medizin: monthly at examination centres (e.g. Kassel, Frankfurt and Berlin); examination fee: €150
  • FSP with telc: certificate recognised in Hesse, Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein; examination fee: €470
  • In other federal states: FSP with the relevant State Chamber of Physicians (requires confirmation of employment or continued employment)

Language preparation with DEUTSCH FOR DOCS

We cooperate with the specialist language school Deutsch for Docs, which specialises in medical communication and documentation (patient histories, findings, treatment, medical reports, discharge reports and more). – DEUTSCH FOR DOCS – Medical communication and documentation: Intercultural and language training in preparation for the Specialist Language Examination and for obtaining work permission and/or Approbation.
